You know those places that you see for the first time and you immediately feel home? That is the tiny village called Kallmünz for me. In that split second I arrived at Kallmünz, silently laying at the feet of a small hill crowned by an ancient castle and accommodating the river Naab, I knew I was in love. I revisited this place more than once, so I was lucky enough to see its different faces.    

Kallmünz is a municipality in the district of Regensburg in Bavaria  and has a beautiful medieval center. The main attractions are the ruins of the Kallmünz Castle above the town on a cliff and the old stone bridge over the Naab River. It is home of an artist colony since Wassily Kandinsky and Gabriele Münter met here in 1903.

Wherever you look, you see art - on the streets, on the houses, in the windows, literally, everywhere. It has a strong creative vibration and tranquility, which gives you a peace of mind and desire to be creative, yourself. 

Being an early bird gives me the advantage of getting out to  photograph places when everyone is still asleep. Having the feeling I am the only person on the streets helps me to sense the atmosphere.  I  switch into this introverted mindset when I am at the verge of reality and fantasy -  all kind of stories run through my mind and I only see shapes/forms/perspectives.

When I shoot at historical places, like Kallmünz, I always get amused by how constant physical objects can be. Time is passing at the very same space forever, yet a stone I'm standing next to has been there for hundreds of years. A tired merchant may have sat down to have some rest on his way to the medieval market, while nowadays a teenager is checking her/his Facebook account while passing by it. This continuity of space and time never, ever fails to amuse me. I guess that is what I like about photography, the ability to stamp on that continuous timeline to create a physical object that will become a constant as well (ok, at least for a while).
